the flour mill in tarrytown

November 6th, 2009 § 0

The old mill in Tarrytown was actually our first stop, just across the street from the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. It’s still a working mill — the crew that was there (dressed in period clothing) actually demonstrated the mill, grinding flour through the large stones that turn with the flow of the damned up water. Totally fascinating. The volunteers keep the place going — along with the random assortment of roosters, chickens, cows, goats and kitties that lovingly keep watch over the staff.
